Totally infectious and endearing indie-pop song ‘take me on’ is the first thing we’re treated to from brand new project Joan. Comprised of Alan Thomas and Steven Rutherford, the pair met just a few months ago at a show where they both played as part of separate outfits, but began joining forces almost instantly with a creative foray into the glistening past of ‘80s pop. Retro aesthetics have seeped into every pore of Joan, from their dungarees-clad press photos to their debut song ‘take me on’ with it starry keys, TV show drum machines, embracing electronic guitars and plush vocals that speak of “spending tonight and forever with the one you love." It’s really no surprise that these musicians from Little Rock so candidly refer to their sound as “overalls and electric pianos.” - HT
